About Abhaya Kendram
SEVABHARATHI THEN TAMILNADU KANYAKUMARI DISTRICT & CORPORATION OF NAGERCOIL is jointly runs ABHAYA KENDRAM. It was started on 17-09-2017. This Abhaya Kendram was inaugurated by Ex Minister Sri.Pon.Radhakrishnan Ji. This was presence by Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sri.Saravana Kumar BBA,BL, and Municpal Engineer Sri.D.Suresh Kumar M.Tech. The in-charge of in this project is Sri.N.Pon Kumar.
One of the Flagship programme of NULM is Shelter for Urban Homeless. In the 2017 onwards Shelter for Urban homeless which is called as Abhaya kendram is functioning at Saraloor Avittam Thirunal Maharaja Corporation Ground.
Seva bharathi Then Tamilnadu was selected by the Nagercoil Corporation to run the programme jointly both financially and Physically for implementation.
A team of dedicated volunteers from Seva Bharathi have devoted their life to care the Homeless people. They were trained by NULM and Seva Bharathi.
Who Are Eligible
“Persons who do not have a house, either self-owned or rented in the urban areas, but instead – live and sleep at pavements, parks, railway stations, bus stations and places of worship, outside shops and factories, at construction sites, under bridges, inside hume pipes and other places under the open sky or places unfit for human habitation; – spend their nights at night shelters, transit homes, short stay homes, beggars’ homes and children’s homes; – live in temporary structures without walls under plastic sheets or thatch roofs on pavements, parks, nallah beds, water or drainage pipes kept for installation and other common spaces.
How They Are Admitted
Any person who is homeless, wandering in the streets, bus stands, Platforms, Railway station, Temples, Churches and Mosques etc.,. are being informed by public directly to us or any volunteer or the Local Police and they are admitted to the home and cared by providing Food, Clothing, Shelter, Physical wellbeing and Psychological support, Legal support, etc.,.
Counselling and Care
Once a person is admitted we take care with devotion and determination to find out the nearest relatives and counsel both the parties. Finally sending the inmate with their next relative is the actual target.
How Do We Serve
The well wishers and philanthropist are supporting us by sponsoring for one day, medical camp and medical expenses of the inmates, funeral expenses during death, etc.,. which helps us to serve the community.
Special Features:
Monthly once we take the inmates as excursion to nearby place of interest, just to make them happy and to get enthusiasm .Also we provide them free medical Facilities according to their requirements. Once in two months free medical camp is being conducted at our premises with the help of specialist doctors.
Aim:
This project is a joint venture with Municipal Corporation of Nagercoil and Seva Bharathi Then Tamilnadu to implement a part of NULM. A building with minimum facilities is provided by the Municipal Corporation of Nagercoil for this project.

Eliminating the street wanderers in the urbanized Kanyakumari District by identifying and caring them Physically and psychologically and rejoining with their Kith and kin in order make their life live in dignity.
Mission
To provide temporary shelter to homeless persons in Urbanized Kanyakumari District and caring them by means of basic amenities such as food cloth and shelter with medical and psychological support and then rejoining them with their families by the way reducing the street wanders.
